2009 Legislative Survey Results

Some of you may have filled out the on-line survey or mailed it in.  These are the results.  Thanks to Representative Dennis Tyler for getting the data to us so quickly.

 

Question #1: What should be the Indiana General Assembly’s top priority for funding in the biennial state budget?

            55% – Job creation, retention and training programs

            10% – K-12 Education

              3% – Higher Education

            16% – Health Care

              3% – Family & Children’s Services

            13% – Expanded tax relief

 

Question # 2: Should companies that receive tax funded benefits to locate in Indiana be required to return benefits if relocate to other countries?

            94% – Yes

              3% – No

              3% – No opinion

 

Question # 3: Should companies that receive tax funded benefits to locate in Indiana be required to open the hiring to all Hoosiers?

            88% – Yes

              7% – No

              5% – No opinion

 

Question #4: Do you feel Indiana should eliminate the state sales tax on gasoline?

            46% – Yes

            45% – No

             8% – No opinion

 

Question # 5: Do you believe state-supported colleges and universities should impose a freeze on tuition rates?

            74% – Yes

            19% – No

              8% – No opinion

 

Question # 6: Would you be willing to pay an increase in either sales or income taxes to ensure adequate funding for public education in Indiana?

            46% – Yes

            44% – No

            10% – No opinion

 

Question # 7: Do you feel the property tax relief enacted in 2008 is working?

            50% – Yes

            26% – No opinion

 

Question # 8: Should the state of Indiana provide stronger sanction against businesses that hire undocumented workers?

            84% – Yes

Question # 9: How important is the construction of mass transit in our area??

            28% – Very important

            31% – Somewhat important

            18% – Less important

            17% – Not important

              6% – No opinion

 

Question # 10: Should Indiana expand the amount of time a house is in foreclosure from 90 to 120 days to help homeowners refinance and try to keep their homes?

            82% – Yes

            12% – No

              6% – No opinion

 

Question # 11: State’s unemployment fund is broke.  How should we solve this problem?

            26% – Require employers to pay more money into the fund

            42% – Tighten requirements on who may receive benefits

            33% – Other
