Delaware County Candidate Endorsements-Star Press Editorial Board

Posted on Updated on

On Sunday, October 24th, 2010 the Star Press Editorial Board has made their first endorsement.

In the prosecutor’s race their endorsement goes to Jeff Arnold.

“Drug Task Force shenanigans and confidential settlement agreements have sullied the office and consumed far too much time as personnel had to defend past and current practices instead of focusing on carrying out the public’s trust and convicting criminals. The county owes Cummins a debt of gratitude for taking on entrenched party politics to bring some of that ugliness to light. It was not easy, and he certainly wasn’t rewarded by party leadership. Democratic voters, however, stood behind him — a clear sign that the community wants change.” SP 10-24-10

“Arnold stressed McKinney will play no role in his administration and he wants to move the office away from being a lead investigative agency for the police. “Personal agendas have no role in the judicial system,” he said. “That’s got to stop. Don’t play the game. Don’t react. Do the job you’re supposed to be doing and that will turn the image (of the office) around.” He plans to restructure the office by cutting the number of chief deputies from two to one, as would Cummins. He plans to continue to try cases, one part of the job he loves.

Regarding plea bargains, he’ll weigh each case on its own merits, but he added violent crimes charged as a Class A or B felonies would not be plea bargained unless a case was in jeopardy of falling apart.” SP 10-24-10
