Former Chevy plant’s future discussed

Local officials will meet in February to seek public input on the future of the former Chevrolet Muncie plant site.

Two “visioning and planning sessions” for the near-downtown industrial site — vacant since buildings were razed following the spring 2006 closing of the plant, which operated as Manual Transmissions in its final years — are set for Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Horizon Convention Center.

The identical sessions are set for 1:30-4 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. that day, the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance announced Tuesday. Participants will receive an overview of the area and constraints to redevelopment, then break into eight-person groups to discuss visions for redevelopment.

The session will be overseen by facilitators from Kansas State University.

To register for the sessions: Brad Bookout at the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance at 751-9133.

Who owns the land? What liabilities come with it, e.g. superfund sites have joint and several…meaning that if you touch it the tar baby sticks with you. Do we have enough outdoor tennis courts?
